We came across this article regarding lessons learned by Australian government agencies following the recent bush fires. It seems that government web sites were not competing well with the private sector when it came to search engine optimization: web searches for bushfire information were more likely to return results from news web sites than results from government agencies. Given how important it is for the right message to be disseminated during emergencies, it seems that SEO is a key area for the Australian government to focus on.
